The following article was written by former customers Chuck and Joan Verner of Beaver Falls, PA.

Reason #1 to REFUSE an Aria Visa Credit Card from Providian Financial Corporation:
Aria Visa uses bait and switch!

Be very careful.  When you read Aria's Advertising on the Internet, they promise a lot.  They promise low interest, grace periods, no annual fees and more--this is the "bait".  However, after mailing you their card, they are known to "switch" their terms and charge very high interest, give you little or no grace period, and in some cases, have been known to ask people to send in a "fee" to activate their card.

Reason #2 to REFUSE an Aria Visa Credit Card from Providian Financial Corporation:
Aria Visa charges interest much higher than a "LOAN SHARK"!

As of  February 2000, our account was paid in full; the balance was $0.  The following month of March we had $46.10 in purchases, and a finance charge of $9.90.  Wow, $9.90 on $46.10--it would have been cheaper to use a loan shark!  Where is your grace period Aria?

Reason #3 to REFUSE an Aria Visa Credit Card from Providian Financial Corporation:
Aria Visa balance transfer?  21.99%  -- What a rip!

While most companies offer a very modest interest rate on balance transfers, the percentage rate Aria charged us was 21.99%.  We sent in very large monthly payments; they never applied any of those payments to the balance transfer.  Instead, they would apply payment to any new purchases that were charged at a lower percentage rate.

Reason #4 to REFUSE an Aria Visa Credit Card from Providian Financial Corporation:
Aria Visa takes their good 'ole time applying your payment!

We made sure our last payment was sent by U.S. registered mail because Aria has a tendency to delay crediting  of your account.  One of our payments was sent in and they did not credit our account for almost two weeks.  Aria uses this tactic to drive up the interest rate that we are charged.  Aria will pull every trick in the book to charge a higher interest rate whenever they can.

Reason #5 to REFUSE an Aria Visa Credit Card from Providian Financial Corporation:
Aria Visa never responds!

We even sent a registered letter by U.S. Mail.  In addition, we sent Aria numerous emails.  Aria has never replied!  Aria could care less about answering any of our questions regarding their poor billing practices.

Reason #6 to REFUSE an Aria Visa Credit Card from Providian Financial Corporation:
Aria Visa could care less!

When we contacted Aria by phone, they could care less.  The representative had an I don't care attitude, and no effort was ever made to resolve our problems.  But at least one accomplishment was made--WE CANCELED OUR ACCOUNT!
